Aside from Hurricane Sandy, payphones really haven’t seen much action in well over a decade.

This is priceless. When area gas stations are closed, siphoning gas is in vogue.

Thanks to crowdfunding efforts via Lucky Ant, the Stanton Street Synagogue met (and exceeded) its initial all-or-nothing goal of $10,000, and with time to spare.

During last night’s all-star “12-12-12” Sandy relief event, Adam Sandler (with Paul Shaffer on keys) performed a great rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Sandler telling Sandy to go fuck herself, in so many words. In the immediate post-Sandy days, bicycles were the best means of transportation, and so it was appropriate that the Green Map System’s “Adapting to Change” tour of the Lower East Side, held this past Sunday, traveled by bike.
