For Alicia Keys, the concrete jungle where dreams are made is apparently on the Lower East Side. Over a month and counting since the ambitious new Levi’s billboard above East Houston was last functional. In late September, the complex collection of cogs, which together spell the slogan “We are all workers,” stopped working altogether. It basically rendered a unique display into something fairly run-of-the-mill.

The massive Levi’s billboard above the intersection of Lafayette and East Houston is still busted. In fact, the mechanism of gears hasn’t worked for a number of weeks now. Well, it was a good two-month run.

Yesterday afternoon, the Levi’s billboard of interlocking cogs above East Houston was finally turned on. Each full revolution of the mechanism lasts roughly seventeen seconds before displaying their “We Are All Workers” marketing slogan.

For the last week or so, a brigade of trucks has been deployed to install a new hi-tech Levi’s billboard above the Bank of America branch at the northeast corner of East Houston and Lafayette. Each day, crews installed the elaborate collection of cogs, that together, spell the message “We are workers.”
