It’s been quite some time since we enjoyed the merry indie rock pleasantries from Scotland’s Travis. Minus frontman Fran Healy’s 2010 solo LP, Wreckorder (plus he did a little songwriting with The Killers later on), things have been pretty quiet since their 2008 release, Ode to J. Smith. Uh, why the silence guys? Bassist Dougie […]

The McNally effect is in, dare we say, full effect at the corner of Bowery and East Houston. Sandwiched between Pulino’s and the new Rag & Bone outpost, it was only a matter of time before Soho Cleaners fell victim. Their number was called, so to speak, last week before Thanksgiving. However, customers who frequent […]

Number 35, the three-year-old gallery at 39 Essex Street, is amidst a move to 141 Attorney. Signs taped on the window panes of their current storefront alert visitors to the forthcoming address change. We followed the scent, as it were, northeast to the Attorney Street cul-de-sac abutting Nathan Straus Playground. From the look of it, […]

An alarming sign for women of all ages who frequent Crops for Girls at 154 Orchard Street. Literally. New leasing signage has recently taken up residence inside the window of the second-floor salon. But, rest assured, it’s not all bad news. Indeed, the hair salon is relocating further north in the coming months.

Just a few months shy of a year at 148 Orchard Street and Gotham Fine Yarn is already throwing in the towel. Or spool, if you will. Three DIY signs taped to the windows currently advertise moving sales.

Four months ago, the New York Times first brought news that neighborhood favorite Il Laboratorio del Gelato was expanding its empire into 188 Ludlow Street, a high-end rental building also known as The Ludlow. Since the bombshell dropped, though, the ground level cornershop has remained relatively idle. There were little, if any, signs that the […]

As reported back in May, high-end boutique A. Turen is currently in the process of re-locating from its Ludlow headquarters. The trip is just a hop-skip-and-jump over to 85 Stanton, between Orchard and Allen Streets.

Within the last couple weeks a fresh sidewalk shed was erected at the entrance of 146 Essex Street. This was the home of M. Katz & Sons Furniture for over five decades. No longer. Word on the street is that a new restaurant will be opening here.

The Orchard Street no man’s land between East Houston and Stanton Street is officially down another business. Last week, Jelena Behrand dropped news on her blog that, after over a decade, her eponymous jewelry studio at 188 Orchard was moving to a different neighborhood location. Indeed, the new space was announced just yesterday – Jelena Behrand […]
