Nike Commissions New Masaryk Towers Mural

Chico’s artistic fingerprint at Masaryk Towers was seriously diminished last weekend. What little remained of his signpost mural on Columbia Street – “Living in Harmony” – was indelibly replaced with something less of the neighborhood.

In keeping with the theme of soccer pop-up shops, another such concept is coming to 276 Bowery, onetime home of the Feature Inc. gallery.  In recent months, the interior was gutted and redesigned to accommodate this latest installation. The Gem Hotel at 135 East Houston is now shrouded in an obtrusive Nike banner-ad. In case memory eludes you, this was the former location of a Howard Johnson. Poor Yonah Shimmel, threatened with the passage of each day.
