In a neighborhood riddled with terrible drainage, a not uncommon sight. Sweeping the water into the sewers. Spotted outside the Bowery Mission after yesterday’s early morning downpour.

Okay, this puddle-lake at the northwest corner of Mulberry and Kenmare is the largest we’ve seen around the neighborhood in quite some time.

This week, discarded couch cushion is ingeniously utilized as a foot bridge across the river at the corner of Essex and Rivington.

Our love of city snowstorms is equally countered by the inevitable nuisance of the street melt (not a sandwich). Maneuvering past snow bulkheads and corner puddles is definitely a strategy in itself. Especially since many of these cold slush pools tend to be deceptively deep.
