As reported earlier this month, East Village taco stand Snack Dragon is opening another location at 164 Orchard Street. And it’s almost ready. The black-and-yellow signage, which sort of resembles a ransom note, was hoisted over the weekend. As was a string of festive Christmas lights.

Last night, the owners of the future restaurant at 245 Bowery held a public meeting for their latest enterprise, currently dubbed “S.R.O.” Turnout was rather abysmal – just five people. Nevertheless, the interaction was informative, and we now have a better glimpse of what’s happening here.

Two weeks ago, Eater brought the troubling news that another swanky Bowery 2.0 restaurant is currently in the works for 245 Bowery (at Stanton). This, hot on the heels of McNally planting the flag of Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria just up the block at the corner of East Houston.

The new French-themed eatery Lina Frey is but a day from opening at 201 East Houston. For the last week or so, the security gates were raised, the veil of brown paper gone from the windows. One worker told us yesterday that the joint will open tomorrow, complete with retractable glass roof.

Yesterday afternoon was the big reveal for Seven Rivers of India at 203 East Houston. The brown paper is now gone from the windows, revealing a seemingly plain vanilla interior. The grand opening is no doubt imminent. [Photo: EV Grieve]

Last week, Fork in the Road reported that 203 East Houston had a new culinary identity – Seven Rivers of India. The old bagel shop which once resided at this address is naught but a memory. A new maroon awning is now firmly in place.

For many years, the upper brick facade of 86 Orchard Street was covered with a sign for Majestic Hosiery, the longtime business which operated at ground level. Yet, now that Casa Mezcal is commandeering the three-story space, the sign was no longer necessary.

It’s official – Kebab House II is closed for good. Last week, we reported that the late night Halal joint was in a state of disrepair; this week, there is no evidence of its existence aside from the signage. The interior is completely cleared of tables and kitchen equipment.
