White Slab Palace Felled by Department of Health

Posted June 14, 2010 at 6:11 am

Last Thursday, the Department of Health shut down White Slab Palace, pasting its conspicuous neon stickers across the few windows that aren’t cracked.  The Swedish bar-slash-restaurant, located in the former Bank of the United States building at 77 Delancey, has been closed for the past few days.  However, an employee informed us over the weekend […]

More Broken Glass at White Slab Palace

Posted March 8, 2010 at 6:26 am

It’s three times a charm for White Slab Palace and their broken window situation.  Last summer, we reported on the two busted glass panes in the Delancey facade, which, to date, have not been replaced.  This third act of vandalism occurred in the last few weeks and, like its brethren, will probably remain unfixed.

White Slab Palace is currently welcoming a new steel addition to its Allen Street facade. According to recently-filed DOB permits, “100 linear feet of heavy duty sidewalk shed” is in the works for the purpose of “remedial repairs.” Perhaps the new furniture is in response to the alleged falling debris that one bartender told us […]

Good World Officially History

Posted April 6, 2009 at 8:00 am

Despite a rumor that Good World would stay open just a wee-bit longer, the eatery is officially history. A quick ten years at the base of Orchard Street. Taped to a shuttered gate beneath a canopy of scaffolding is a sincere farewell letter. “The Good World Bar, after ten years, shut its doors at midnight […]
